With the New Year right around the corner, is it possible that one of your resolutions is to assist in Dog Rescue in some way? If so then The Pack Project would love to have you join the Pack as a Foster Family! Fosters are a crucial part of the Rescue process in that they provide a safe place for rescued, abandoned and, rehomed animals. With a strong network of Foster families in place, The Pack Project will be able to save the lives of dogs that would otherwise face an uncertain future.

Requirements to become a Pack Project Foster are:
  • Your loving and caring home environment
  • Ability to provide continuous and daily support to your Foster pup including:
  1. Nutritious meals (food supplied by The Pack Project)
  2. Fresh, clean, available water supply (dishes supplied by The Pack Project)
  3. Safe and adequate shelter (crates/kennels supplied by The Pack Project)
  4. Grooming, i.e.: brushing and bathing (shampoo and conditioners supplied)
  5. Transportation to Vet appointments and Adoption events (assistance with this may be available, just ask your Foster Coordinator)
  6. Love, affection, exercise, snuggles, socialization and, humane treatment (you and your family!)

Most every rescue is dependent on people who are willing to open their homes to dogs in need. The Pack Project is no different and very recently we have launched our Foster program. This is a hugely exciting step for us as a rescue and we are hoping to reach those of you in the community that have considered fostering but may still be in the consideration phase of the process.

Fostering is the perfect way to care for an animal while the Rescue organization carries the financial obligations associated with pet care such as vetting, food and, supplies. If cost has been a deciding factor for you, please know that fosters are in no way responsible to provide any of the day to day costs of sharing your home with a rescue animal.

Many fosters have dogs of their own and, it is with careful consideration that rescue dogs are placed in these homes. The Pack Project has a team dedicated to matching the right dog with the right family, we want your foster experience to be nothing short of AWESOME! To help our fosters along the rescue road of success, our Foster Angels will be available to answer questions and provide support before, during and, after your foster experience.

Sometimes potential fosters are concerned about being sad when their rescue pup finds their forever home and, of course there will be a period of sadness when an adoption occurs, that's to be expected. However, the thought that your home and heart made an adoption possible should really be able to balance that potential sadness off, we hope! Consider this, there are many, many strays, homeless, owner surrender animals that would not otherwise find their way into rescue and in turn be adopted by a forever family if it were not for a dedicated and loving Pack of foster families.

And truly, many fosters fall so hard for their four legged charges that they cannot picture their lives without them. This, in the rescue biz, is what is lovingly called "Foster Fail"! Everyone in rescue loves to see a post on Social Media proclaiming of a foster fail, it's really heartwarming to see a family fall so much in love with their foster that they have to make them part of their family.

There is an application and approval process to becoming a Foster for The Pack Project. Generally, rescue dogs are coming into care from undesirable living situations and it is the duty of the Pack to ensure that a safe, happy and, force free environment is available. A home check will be carried out and references may have to be provided, all in the best interest of keeping our Rescues safe and sound.

Interested applicants will be be guided through the application process by our dedicated team of Foster Coordinators. All of your questions and/or concerns will be answered by individuals who have been participating in rescue for many years. When you Foster for the Pack you will be surrounded by a loving and supportive group of volunteers, we would love to add you to our Foster Home roster.

Please contact us with questions or to fill out an application form to become a Foster Angel.

You can't really call your Holiday shopping complete without getting a little something for your fur baby, am I right?! No matter what you choose to celebrate this December, keep in mind that Fido and Kitty love to receive a little gift just as much as the rest of the family does.

Animals are so easy to please that they are excited with something as simple as balled up gift wrap or an empty box. For those of us who need little to no excuse to buy that new toy or bed or sweater (the possibilities are endless!) Holiday time is the purrfect time to spoil your furry family members.

According to the UK version of the Daily Mail, approximately 75% of pet parents will purchase gifts for their fur babies. A shocking (and hilarious) 66% of these shoppers will spend more money on their pet than they will on their partner. Holiday themed animal gifts are just too cute to pass up apparently! From gingerbread style dog houses to green and red sock monkeys, the choices are as varied as the beloved pet being shopped for.

The Holidays are a great time to start up a Barkbox or Bowzer Box subscription for your pet or, send as a gift to a family member, friend or, even a shelter or favorite rescue. Many rescues offer coupon codes for Barkbox, so before ordering any monthly treat box for your fur baby, ask around for feedback and opportunities to save money while assisting a rescue.

If you just can't decide on what to gift that hard to shop for pet in your life, take a tour of a local pet store for some inspiration. Sale items abound at this time of year in all stores so, you might luck in to some really good deals while perusing for pet gifts. Some shops offer customizable items such as ID Tags, collars, blankets, tree ornaments and of course, stockings! Treats are ALWAYS a welcome gift idea for pets and, so are toys.

There are a multitude of squeaky, jingly, crinkly, chewy and, cuddly toys in store and online to choose from. It may actually be a challenge to keep from loading one cute thing after another into your cart!

Just remember to keep safety in mind, nothing too small (think choking hazard), nothing too sugary and, avoid items with sharp edges or toys with big googly eyes that can be chewed off and consumed. Keep an eye on toys for wear and tear and remove them before they can cause harm. When a toy is split at the seams and is oozing stuffing, it's time for a new one (a perfect excuse to load up on lots of fur baby prezzies this Holiday Season!)
