STEP 3:
A TPP representative will contact you within 48 hours via email or telephone to discuss the surrender form and next steps prior to accepting the surrender. The goal of this assessment is to ensure that we feel we are able to work with any behavioural or medical issues, and that we will not be putting our volunteers and other dogs at unnecessary risk. As each dog requires a full assessment before coming into foster care, we cannot immediately place them. Sometimes finding an open home that suits the dogs needs can take up to a minimum of 2-4 weeks. For immediate placement, please try the Regina Humane Society.
PLEASE NOTE:
Our foster homes provide a loving environment but, at the end of the day, to your dog it cannot compare to the comforts of a home and the people they trust. Surrendering a dog should be a last resort after having exhausted all other options, as this is a very stressful and confusing experience for all dogs. Most issues that dogs are surrendered for can resolved through training with a committed owner. We would be happy to provide you with a list of trainers and daycare facilities in your area. If training does not work and re-homing is necessary, please keep in mind that we do not have the space to accept all owner surrenders, and that surrendering a dog to us means that we have one less room to offer to other dogs in need. We take owner surrenders extremely seriously, and charge a $75.00* surrender fee to help cover the costs of their care during their time with us. If we are unable to take in your dog, you are welcome to try other rescues or try to re-home your dog yourself. Please be sure to properly screen all potential homes, and to never give a dog away for free. Remember that bringing your dog to a public shelter such as the Regina Humane Society is always better than giving your dog to someone that you do not trust.
*If your dog is not spayed or neutered, or has urgent medical needs that require attention, additional fees may apply.
